Our story
We are a company of fellow travelers. Our love for the sea and our common interest in inflatable boats gave us the opportunity to sail the longest length of the Greek coastline and visit most of our islands. Our common experiences and concerns gave us the opportunity to get to know the many problems of the small and critical islands of the Aegean Sea.
In these islands, in these holy places, we decided to offer our help as often and as much as we can.
At the end of April 95 ... that trip of the old company, to the small islands of the Eastern Aegean, was to be different from the previous ones. Nothing looked the same as what we had seen so many times.
The harbors are half empty, the streets are deserted, the beach shops are closed, without the noise and movement of the vacationers... It was storming, forbidding!
The boat did not come and with it the teacher!!!
The fish didn't leave either...
and ready for the city!
and what will the farmer and the old midwife do? Everything they can!
God put his hand!!!
The few children left on the school grounds,
having nothing else to do they threw it into the game....
But not for long.
The first drops fell.
A woman came out the window. Call out two names.
Little by little the splashes scattered, the rain grew stronger,
the shutters on the doors and windows were closing.
Only the coffee shop in the square was filled with one.
That's where we got in too.
We sat for a round. A local called out to the coffee maker:
Bring on the kids!
We drank hot tea with local thyme honey.
And we've heard stories about jobs being cut short.
The cans that stay in the fridges,
the lack of doctors,
the harbor that has not been built for twenty-five years now,
the ships that most of the time don't come...
We looked into each other's eyes. We had made the decision.
We had to step up, try, help.
Everywhere. Wherever and however we can.
We shot several islands that April of '95.
We wanted to see them, get to know them again. From beginning. With another eye. In another era.
We wanted to experience their desolation, their loneliness, their sufferings but also their persistent will and their struggle to stay there in their place, to live and make progress with it.
At the end of that journey the AEGEAN TEAM was born.
