Our Vision Becomes Action
For three decades, the Aegean Team has been crossing the Aegean, weaving a strong web of service, support and solidarity in the small and remote islands. As a Civil Non-Profit Company since 1995, we operate exclusively on a voluntary basis, offering medical services focusing on charitable, humanitarian, cultural and environmental purposes, promoting the ideals of volunteerism, participation and social contribution.
Our vision is to practically upgrade the quality of life of our islanders. Our philosophy is clear: we do not offer charity, but we build relationships of social solidarity, remaining next to the locusts throughout the year.
1. The Pillars of Our Action: A Holistic Intervention
Our work is multidimensional and aims to cover a wide range of needs, from health and prevention to the development of sustainable infrastructure, education, awareness-raising on current issues and cultural cultivation.
1.1. Health & Prevention: Access to Quality Care
Our medical team, consisting of more than 40 doctors from 20+ specialties, is the heart of our missions.
- Medical Services: We have carried out free medical examinations in over 000 inhabitants and more than 10.000 hematological and biochemical testsAt the same time, we carry out home visits to patients with mobility problems and those who are chronically bedridden. In cases requiring surgical intervention, these have been carried out free of charge in Athens by volunteer doctors of the Group.
- Prevention Actions: We organize specialized clinics, informative talks and webinars, for example, on the prevention of breast and skin cancer, as well as vaccinations for pneumococcal disease.
In collaboration with the Hellenic Red Cross, we offer First Aid courses
for children and adults.
- Medical Equipment: With the aim of providing high-level preventive health services, we regularly upgrade our equipment based on the needs of the specialties, ENT, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Ultrasound, etc.
- Scientific Validity & Collaborations: The credibility of our work is reinforced through strategic partnerships. We have signed memorandums of cooperation with leading scientific companies, clinics and institutions:

- Permanent collaboration with HOPEgenesis AMKE to address the major national issue of low birthrate, whose founder is a member of the Aegean Group.
1.2. Infrastructure & Sustainable Development Projects
We believe in interventions that leave a lasting, positive impact. We have constructed and donated critical infrastructure projects, such as:
- Desalination plants, water supply networks and fast water refineries
• Multi-purpose courts (basketball-volleyball-handball), 5×5 football fields and playgrounds
- In collaboration with HOPEgenesis, we have contributed to the establishment two nurseries in Patmos and Lipsi
- Free access ramps to the sea for people with mobility difficulties
• We delivered 2 fully renovated residences for the accommodation of doctors,
offering better living conditions for them on our small and remote islands
- We have equipped regional clinics with necessary medical equipment, operating materials, IT centers, telemedicine equipment, even with ambulance vehicle
1.3. Education & Culture
The schools of the islands are absolute priority our. Every year, we record their needs and deliver targeted material. To date, we have transported and distributed more than 10 tons of educational, technological, supervisory and entertainment material.
At the same time, we enrich the cultural life of the islands with musical concerts, theatrical performances as well as shadow theater and educational activities, such as a mobile planetarium.
1.4. Environment & Welfare
We have carried out many actions to clean up the coasts and seabeds on the islands we visit and have held numerous informative environmental seminars.

Our Animal Welfare Activities include seminars on the welfare of domesticated and stray animals for children with the participation of trained dogs, information on sterilization programs and the regulatory framework, information on the current legislative provisions on animal cruelty, as well as the provision of food to municipal authorities.
2. The top events of the Aegean Group
Our top events are the annual Aegean Sea Crossing and the Winter Mission.
- Crossing, takes place at the beginning of each May and lasts about 10-12 days
- Winter Mission, It takes place in October and lasts 3-4 days.
During these missions, dozens of volunteers cross the Aegean Sea, with more than 11 inflatable boats —most of which belong to the volunteers themselves— and a specialized support vessel, "MINAS E".
Our Team's future goals include carrying out short missions throughout the year to selected destinations with limited medical services and benefits, always in collaboration with the State.
3. Our Operating Model: Guarantee of Transparency & Efficiency
Our operating model ensures that every resource is utilized to the fullest extent possible to achieve our purpose.
- 100% Volunteerism: The Aegean Team is purely voluntary, without any salaried or paid membersMore than 120 volunteers actively participate in our actions.
- Coverage of Operating Expenses by Members: All operating expenses (rent, travel, accommodation) are covered entirely by the subscriptions of our volunteers.
- 100% Utilization of Donations: All proceeds from donations and sponsorships are allocated exclusively for the implementation of our charitable projects and actions.This investment is immediately converted into a beneficial social impact.
4. Recognition & Reliability: 31+ Years of Excellence
Our consistent and selfless contribution has been recognized by the leading institutions in the country and abroad:
- 2001 by the President of the Republic K. Stefanopoulos
- 2006 by the Minister of Health Mr. D. Avramopoulos as "The Most Innovative Volunteering Idea"
- 2007 by the President of the Republic Mr. K. Papoulias "Islands of Quality of Life"
- 2010 by the Hellenic Medical Association and Federation of Hellenic Associations of New York
"Distinguished Charity Organization 2010"
- 2015 by the Governor of the South Aegean, Mr. G. Hadjimarkos, for the voluntary service to the small and remote islands
- 2020-2021-2022-2024-2025 Healthcare Business Awards for social contribution to our small islands
- 2024 from the institution Greek Demographic Awards 2024, was honored for his contribution to addressing the demographic crisis and contributing to the goals of HOPEgenesis
- 2024 from Hellenic Institute of Customer Service (EIEP) for selfless service and care for fellow human beings for 30 consecutive years
- 2025 from the Prix Galien Greece, was honored with the humanitarian award "Pro Bono Humanum",
for 31 years of volunteer work on small and remote islands
Recently, the ERT3 honored the Aegean Team with a documentary tribute of three fifty-minute episodes entitled "The Aegean of our Life".
